Orientation programme for PG students of University of Mysore held

An orientation programme for the PG students of University of Mysore was held on Thursday.

The objective of the programme was to introduce the freshers to the academic challenges and expectations, university resources, and other aspects of higher education to pave way for their transition to higher education.

It was inaugurated by S.L. Chennabasavanna, Director, Karnataka State Police Academy, while Devi Prabha Alwa was the motivational speaker.

N.K. Lokanath, Vice-Chancellor of the university urged the students to develop a spirit of inquiry and critical thinking and termed it imperative in order to face the challenges of the modern and fast-changing world. He said the university had developed excellent infrastructure for curricular and extra-curricular activities and it was for the students to make the best use of them.

The Vice-Chancellor spoke of the resources developed over the years in the university library, which, he said, had a collection of over 6.2 lakh books, reference works, and journals, apart from over 4 lakh books maintained by individual departments and e-resources, which provides access to 13,000 e-journals and 17000 e-books.

Mr. Lokanath said that the university’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and innovation, was unwavering and the students were urged to seize every opportunity to explore, question, learn, and empower themselves so as to make meaningful contribution to the society in future.
