Amid fresh unrest and killings in Manipur, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Monday (April 27, 2026) reviewed the security situation in the northeastern State that has been affected by ethnic violence since May 2023.

The security vacuum created due to the withdrawal of around 8,500 Central armed police forces (CAPFs) for deployment during the West Bengal elections, frequent disruptions and blockade by women groups and new areas of conflict between Kuki and Naga communities were among the issues flagged at the meeting, a senior government official told The Hindu. Around 36,000 security forces, including Assam Rifles, are deployed in Manipur since 2023.
