Tamil Nadu Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration D. Logesh Tamilselvan, on Tuesday (July 7, 2026), said online registration of specific documents from anywhere, at any time, for the public and builders will begin on August 17.

These documents include first sale of plots and flats, sale deeds relating to the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, and memoranda of deposit of title deeds (MODs).

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, the Minister said once the document submitted by a user is approved by the sub-registrar, the digitally-signed document can be downloaded through the online portal. Measures are underway to enable users and builders to create login credentials on the Registration Department portal.

He said a UIDAI-approved L1 fingerprint scanner, an iris scanner and a webcam would be required for the online registration process. He also said if any queries are raised by the sub-registrar with respect to the submitted documents, the user will be given a 30-day period to respond online, after which the registration will be cleared based on validation.

Toll-free number soon

Further, the Registration Department will roll out a toll-free number through which members of the public and builders can lodge their grievances, and those will be addressed promptly, said the Minister, adding that the Registration Department has set a target of generating ₹31,000 crore in revenue.

While chairing a review meeting of the Registration Department on July 6, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had given specific instructions that there should not be any inconvenience to the public visiting sub-registrar Offices, Mr. Tamilselvan said.

Further, the Minister urged the public to approach sub-registrars and officers of the Registration Department for any queries and not engage with intermediaries.
