To deliberate on the objections raised by Andhra Pradesh on the Upper Krishna Project (UKP) and to prevail upon the Union government, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar along with other Ministers including H.K. Patil, M.B. Patil and N.S. Boseraju will be travelling to Delhi to meet members of Parliament from the State.

Speaking to presspersons in Bagalkot on Saturday, Mr. Shivakumar said that they would be proceeding to Delhi on Tuesday.

He said that Andhra Pradesh had written to the Centre objecting the land acquisition for UKP and the Centre had written to Karnataka seeking clarification. “We are going on with the project as per the Tribunal order and we have already spent ₹26,000 crore,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister clarified that the State government was in the process of preparations for making use of the allotted quota of water to the State as per the Tribunal’s award in 2010.

Apart from raising objections to the UKP, Andhra Pradesh government was also not cooperating on the issue of construction of balancing reservoir on Tungabadhra because of which the State was losing 30 tmcft of water, he said.
