Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture company between NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL) and and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), has commenced initial mining operations at the Pachwara South Open Cast Project (PSOCP) in Dumka district of Jharkhand.

According to NLCIL, the Pachwara South Coal Block, with an approved capacity of 9.0 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) and extractable coal reserve of 264.84 million tonnes was allotted for meeting the fuel requirements of NUPPL’s Ghatampur Thermal Power Station.

The coal block will cater to the fuel requirements of the power plant in a sustainable, reliable, and cost-effective manner, thereby contributing to efficient power generation.

At present, overburden removal operations have commenced, paving the way for systematic coal production. With the commencement of mining at Pachwara South, NLCIL’s overall mining capacity, currently at 50.1 MTPA, is poised to further increase with the start of coal production from this mine doubling its mining capacity to more than 100 MTPA by 2030.

According to NLCIL Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, “The commencement of mining operations at Pachwara South is a proud moment for NLC India Limited and UPRVUNL. It reflects the company’s steady progress across all domains — mining, thermal power, and renewable energy towards nation-building. NLCIL continues to expand its mining capabilities through responsible and sustainable practices, ensuring a reliable fuel supply for power generation and supporting India’s economic growth.”
