Following a barrage of complaints about the Hebbal stretch – the key link between the city and the airport – being persistently filthy, Bengaluru North Corporation Commissioner has set a December 14 deadline to clean up the entire corridor.

This road is the main link between Bengaluru and the airport, and many people had pointed out that visitors entering the city see piles of garbage as their “first impression”.

The move also comes close on the heels of a recent inspection by Revenue Minister and Byatarayanapura MLA Krishna Byre Gowda, who had flagged the lack of upkeep on the arterial road.

A special drive started on Monday, and will continue for a week. It covers Allalasandra, Hebbal, Byatarayanapura, Nagawara, and nearby areas. All major agencies including BMRCL, NHAI, Bescom, BWSSB, have been asked to join the effort, along with local RWAs and shop and commercial establishments along the road.

Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar has written to each of these agencies to send representatives so they can jointly take responsibility for cleaning and maintaining the corridor.

NHAI has specifically been asked to fix two issues immediately – broken barricades along the road and damaged drain slabs that have been jutting out and blocking parts of the carriageway.
