Many places in Andhra Pradesh experienced a cloudy yet dry day on Saturday, even as some others, most of them in the north Andhra region, received light to moderate showers under the influence of the well-marked low pressure over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal.

According to the realtime information available on the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), as of 4 p.m. on Saturday, Pappala Lingalavalasa in Vizianagaram district recorded 36.5 mm rain; followed by Salur (35.5 mm), Seethanagaram (30.8 mm), Makkuva (26.25 mm) and and Purohitunivalasa (26 mm), all in in Parvathipuram-Manyam district; Puligummi in Vizianagaram (24 mm) and G. Sigadam in Srikakulam district (23 mm).

All other stations in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Parvathipuram-Manyam districts recorded rain of less than 20 mm. The daytime temperatures across the State remained around 36 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light showers are likely in a few areas in coastal areas of the State until July 9. Thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds with speed reaching 40 kmph to 50 kmph are also expected in one or two places in this region.

Meanwhile, Rayalaseema may remain dry until July 9, with light showers having been forecast for one or two places in the region. However, strong winds may prevail in Rayalaseema as well. Sunday, July 5, may also remain cloudy in most parts of the State.

The weather in the State is influenced by the cyclonic circulation associated with low pressure, which is very likely to move west-northwestward across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during the next three days. There is also a seasonal trough running from Rajasthan to the centre of the low pressure area.
