The final day of the nomination filing for ZPTC and MPTC positions ended across Tirupati district on Friday. Collector S. Venkateswar and Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu inspected several nomination centres across the district, including Chandragiri, Ramachandrapuram, Srikalahasti, Thottambedu, Kodur, Pullampeta and Obulavaripalle mandals to get a feel for the security arrangements at the venues.

The process adopted for the MPTC/ZPTC election polling and counting of votes will be replicated for the ensuing Sarpanch election also, Mr. Venkateswar said.

Mr. Subbarayudu said the department provided all facilities to enable the candidates in the fray to file the nominations peacefully and fearlessly. The officials sought the cooperation of political leaders across party lines to ensure the conduct of elections in a free and fair manner.

Meanwhile, the reopening of the nomination phase for certain municipalities and corporations rekindled hopes in those who could not file their papers in the previous phase. At the same time, those who had filed their papers and were hoping to win the polls had to face an extended phase of tension.

Tension was writ large on the faces of the candidates in Mydukur of Kadapa district, where the nomination was opened in all the wards. Some troublesome wards were reopened in Kadapa, Tirupati corporations and Rajampeta municipality.
