The process of filing nominations for the elections to 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra began on Tuesday (December 23, 2025). The window for filing nomination remains open till December 30.

A week ago, State Election Commission announced that the long due municipal corporation elections will be held on January 15, 2026 and followed by results on the next day. The Day 1 numbers on nominations filed will be known at the end of the evening. The candidates can withdraw their forms till January 2.

The elections are nearing, and nominations have already started, however the political parties in both ruling Mahayuti and Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) camp are yet to officially announce the seat-sharing arrangements.

In Mahayuti, Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have reiterated to contest elections as Mahayuti but to reach agreement on seat-sharing, while Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) likely to compete with BJP in Pune Municipal Corporation. In BMC elections, NCP is yet to decide whether to go solo.

Earlier, BJP Mumbai president Ameet Satam and Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant announced that 150 seats of BMC are decided, while 77 are pending.

For Opposition, the alliance talks are in final phase for MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT), while Congress is looking to align with Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA). Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, Sanjay Raut stated that in two days his party and MNS will announce the political alliance for corporation elections.
