Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Kerala Amir P. Mujeeb Rahman has claimed that his organisation had never held any pre-poll discussions with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan when he was the State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] at the party State committee office in Thiruvananthapuram.

Addressing the media in Kozhikode on Wednesday (December 17, 2025), Mr. Rahman, however, said that JIH former State Amir T.K. Arif Ali had conducted talks with Mr. Vijayan ahead of the Assembly polls in Kerala in March 2011, at the Alappuzha government guesthouse.

‘Irresponsible statements’

“We have had many meetings with CPI(M) leaders at the party State committee office. But, they had nothing to do with the elections. The Chief Minister is talking about discussions we have never had and remarks that were never made. Mr. Vijayan is making totally irresponsible statements,” he said.

Responding to the Chief Minister’s statement that he had “never given any good certificate” to the JIH, Mr. Rahman said the organisation “does not need any good certificate from any political party.”

Mr. Rahman’s comments come in the wake of Mr. Vijayan’s remarks during a recent press conference in Kozhikode that the latter had met JIH leaders at the AKG Centre for talks and that he had made critical remarks about the functionaries of the JIH-backed Solidarity Youth Movement on their face.

Meanwhile, the JIH leader also alleged that the CPI(M) in Kerala was often found to have been taking political positions that were at variance with its earlier political line. Citing instances such as the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the PM SHRI scheme and the conduct of Global Ayyappa Sangamam in which Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s message was read out in a jubilant manner, Mr. Rahman claimed that the CPI(M) was “echoing the political line of the Sangh Parivar.”

He alleged that attempts were being made to “encourage Islamophobia to create a fear psychosis” among the majority community.
