A Cabinet subcommittee formed to study matters related to implementation of the PM SHRI (Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India) scheme in Kerala held its second meeting here on Wednesday.
“No final decision has been taken. We are discussing various aspects of the scheme. The subcommittee has a month’s time to submit its report,” Minister for General Education N. Samsudheen said.
The meeting, attended by Mr. Samsudheen, Minister for Higher Education Roji M. John, Minister for Tourism P.C. Vishnunadh, and Minister for Excise M. Liju, saw the Ministers who had studied the scheme guidelines present their views on it.
Owing to lack of time, it was decided to schedule another meeting of the subcommittee soon, it is learnt.
The subcommittee has been tasked with preparing the communication to be forwarded to the Union government.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan had said the implementation of the scheme would be on the condition that the Union government would not intervene in curriculum and that the State would have the freedom to choose the schools in which it would be implemented.
Mr. Samsudheen underscored that the government wanted full freedom to do the school selection.
