Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Sunday said no alliance capable of opposing the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance has yet been formed in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to reporters in Chidambaram, Mr. Thirumavalavan claimed that the AIADMK alliance was fragmented, and it was struggling to unite the party leaders. No qualified alliance exists to challenge the DMK-led alliance so far, he said.

He expressed confidence that the people of the State will extend their massive support to the DMK-led alliance in the upcoming Assembly election. “The support has been growing due to the introduction of numerous schemes and welfare programmes. The State leads in the parameters of education, economy, industrial growth and health, largely due to the Chief Minister’s role. This alliance has been functioning since 2017, and people will extend their support to us,” he felt.

Referring to the ongoing protests of Annamalai University teachers, Mr. Thirumavalavan called upon the Directorate of Higher Education and the Tamil Nadu government to hold talks with them and fulfil their demands. The State government had previously held discussions with the protesting staff and given assurances. However, those promises have not been fulfilled, leading to renewed protests. The Chief Minister must provide a permanent solution to this, he said.
