NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) organised a mass cleanliness drive in Neyveli town on Thursday as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.

According to a press release, the cleanliness drive was organised to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. Senior officials of NLCIL, employees, contract workers, stakeholders, and children from various schools in Neyveli participated.

Pamphlets were also distributed during the cleanliness drive to raise awareness about the segregation and disposal of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and ban on usage of single-use plastics.

Launching the campaign, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL said the Swachhata Mission, launched in 2017 by the Prime Minister represented a transformative phase in India’s sanitation programme.

NLCIL has been consistent in its efforts towards “Swachh India” and had won the first prize among coal Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in the campaign during the last two years. The campaign launched on September 16 included various activities including blood donation camp, mass tree plantation, training for aspiring youth and a rural sports meet.

NLCIL Directors Samir Swarup and M. Venkatachalam participated.
