Belagavi police have initiated several measures to control traffic movement in the city.

They include a ban on the movement of heavy vehicles during peak traffic hours, and designated parking and pick-up and drop locations.

Commissioner of Police Borase Bhushan Gulabrao has issued an order intended to control rising traffic and reduce accidents in Belagavi city. He has appealed to citizens, vehicle owners and commuters to cooperate with the police to ensure safer and smoother traffic movement in the city.

Police have decided to restrict movement of heavy vehicles during some hours of the day to ensure safety of school and college students, parents, and the general public. This order (on heavy vehicles) comes into force with immediate effect.

Parking of vehicles

Recently, there has been an increase in vehicle traffic in the city area.

In the interest of school children, parents and the general public, the movement of heavy vehicles has been restricted from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Violations will attract action under Section 177 of Motor Vehicles Act. Police will levy a fine on those who violate the rule.

In 2025, a total of 1,001 no-entry violation cases were registered, and ₹4,17,050 was collected as fines.

Private buses have been told to pick and drop passengers from designated spots in the city. Private buses stopping at busy locations, such as RTO Circle, Triveni Hotel, Ramdev Hotel, and Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Circle, has led to congestion.

The rules will come into effect on January 27 , the Commissioner said.

At other times, the vehicles shall be parked at paid parking plots before the Bharatesh School and the empty space behind Ashoka Nagar Belagavi One Centre, and on Ashoka Nagar Road from Dharmanath Circle. A meeting of private bus operators will be held on January 27. Police warned of strict action against violators under the Motor Vehicles Act.

In order to ensure smooth movement of pedestrians, parking of vehicles on both sides of the road is prohibited from Triveni Hotel to CBS (Central Bus Stand) Circle, and from Kirti Hotel Cross to Sangolli Rayanna (RTO) Circle .

Parking will be allowed on both sides of some roads on an odd and even date basis. They include the Krishnadevaraya (Kollapur) Circle to Mahanagara Palike office cross.

People have been requested to strictly follow the above orders and abide by the traffic rules. Police warned of legal action against those guilty of violating the traffic rules as per Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
