To facilitate safe and convenient travel for revellers on New Year’s Eve, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) have announced the extension of metro and bus services in the city.
The BMRCL has extended its services on the Purple, Green, and Yellow Lines till late night on January 1, 2026. According to a release issued on December 29, metro services will operate beyond midnight on December 31, 2025, with last train departures scheduled in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
On the Purple Line, the last train will depart from Whitefield towards Challaghatta at 1.45 a.m., while services from Challaghatta to Whitefield will run till 2 a.m. On the Green Line, trains will operate from Madavara to Silk Institute and in the reverse direction till 2 a.m. Meanwhile, on the Yellow Line, the last train will leave R.V. Road for Bommasandra at 3.10 a.m., while services from Bommasandra towards R.V. Road will run till 1.30 a.m.
The BMRCL also announced that the last train from Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station, Majestic, will depart at 2.45 a.m. towards all four directions, Whitefield and Challaghatta on the Purple Line, and Madavara and Silk Institute on the Green Line.
To manage passenger flow, metro services will run at eight-minute intervals on the Purple and Green Lines and at 15-minute intervals on the Yellow Line from 1.30 p.m. on December 31 until the end of the extended service period, according to the release.
M.G. Road Metro Station to be closed from 10 p.m.
“In view of the anticipated large public gathering in the M.G. Road area, the M.G. Road Metro Station will be closed for entry and exit on December 31, 2025, from 10 p.m. However, trains will halt at the adjacent stations, Trinity and Cubbon Park, for boarding and deboarding of passengers,” the release stated.
The BMRCL has also issued a ticketing advisory, stating that token sales at Trinity and Cubbon Park stations will stop after 11 p.m. Passengers travelling after 11 p.m. have been advised to purchase journey tickets in advance or use QR tickets or smart cards with sufficient balance.
BMTC to run special midnight buses
Meanwhile, the BMTC has announced special midnight bus services from M.G. Road and Brigade Road to various parts of the city to facilitate safe and convenient travel for revellers attending New Year celebrations on the night of December 31, 2025.
According to a press release issued by the BMTC, the special services will operate between 11 p.m. on December 31 and 2 a.m. on January 1, depending on traffic conditions.
The special buses will depart from M.G. Road Metro Station and Brigade Road and connect key areas across Bengaluru. Services will be operated to destinations including Electronics City, Jigani, Sarjapura, Kengeri KHB Quarters, Janapriya Township, Nelamangala, Yelahanka (including 5th Stage), Bagalur, Hosakote, Channasandra, Kadugodi, Banashankari, Jeevan Bhimanagara, Central Silk Board, and Koramangala. Both G-series and regular route buses have been earmarked to cover these corridors.
In addition to the direct services from M.G. Road and Brigade Road, the BMTC has also made arrangements to operate buses from major bus stations and junctions across the city. These include Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS), K.R. Market, Shivajinagar, Koramangala, Kadugodi, Kengeri, Sumanahalli, Goraguntepalya, Yeshwantpur, Yelahanka, Shanthinagar, Banashankari, Hebbal, and Central Silk Board.
