Naidu tells Collectors to stay alert, restore roads and move people from landslip-prone areas as rain continues

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, at a late-night review on Wednesday, directed the district administrations in rain-affected areas to remain fully alert on Thursday (September 24, 2026) and Friday, when heavy rain was expected to continue.

Collectors of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, West Godavari, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Eluru, Polavaram and Krishna districts took part in the teleconference. Rain could grow heavier after the deep depression crossed the coast, the Chief Minister told them, according to a post by the Chief Minister’s Office on X.

Mr. Naidu instructed the officials to personally visit the field whenever difficult situations arose and take immediate steps to address them. He asked them to restore road connectivity without delay wherever roads were damaged or traffic disrupted by the flow of rainwater.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to alert residents in areas vulnerable to landslips and shift them to safer locations wherever necessary. He also said there should be no disruption in power supply in the affected areas.

He asked the Collectors to establish control rooms and obtain regular information from field officials. Officials were told to focus on filling tanks and to take measures in advance to prevent breaches. Any assistance sought by field officials should be provided immediately, he said.

Mr. Naidu also asked the administration to collect feedback from people through the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS). Strong winds had uprooted trees at several places, and he directed officials to clear them immediately so that traffic was not affected.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to continuously assess the flood situation and take precautionary measures based on the ground situation.

Narayana asks municipal bodies to step up preparedness

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana held a teleconference with municipal commissioners of rain-affected districts on Thursday and directed them to take all measures to ensure that people did not face inconvenience because of the heavy rain.

He asked the commissioners to prevent waterlogging in low-lying areas and ensure that engineering and sanitation personnel remained available round the clock.

The Minister directed municipal authorities to regularly remove silt from drains so that the flow of sewage and rainwater was not obstructed. He also asked them to keep the necessary machinery ready for immediate removal of trees that might fall on roads.

Special call centres should be established at municipal offices to receive complaints and coordinate relief and response measures, Mr. Narayana said.
