Minister for Civil Supplies Nadendla Manohar on Thursday came to the rescue of a farmer distressed over paddy procurement, drawing praise from farmers of Bhatlapenumarru in Movva mandal, Krishna district.

The incident unfolded in Bhatlapenumarru, where local farmer Chalasani Chantibabu, who cultivated paddy on 14 acres, struggled to sell his freshly harvested crop. After shifting produce from seven acres to his home, he approached the local Rythu Seva Kendra, only to be told that gunny bags were unavailable and that lorry deployment would be delayed indefinitely.

Unsure of what to do, Mr. Chantibabu shared his plight with a local acquaintance. The information quickly reached Minister Manohar’s team, and by early morning, the matter was escalated to the Minister through WhatsApp.

At 10:15 a.m., Mr. Chantibabu received a “surprising phone call”, from the Minister. Moved by the farmer’s distress, the Minister assured immediate support and urged him not to worry. Within half an hour, the district administration sprang into action. The officials contacted the farmer, informing him that procurement arrangements were being made. Movva Mandal Tahsildar soon arrived in the village, assessed the requirement of gunny bags, and initiated same-day collection of the harvested paddy.

The speed and coordination of the response won praise by the villagers. Mr. Chantibabu said the Minister’s personal intervention restored his confidence in the government, according to a press release.
