Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) leader and MP N.K. Premachandran on Monday (March 30) levelled serious allegations against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, claiming that the latter was unable to respond to questions regarding alleged links with the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and was instead reacting with hostility towards journalists.

Speaking to the media during an event organised by the Kasargod Press Club, Mr. Premachandran alleged that the CPI(M)-led Left government was maintaining political understandings with multiple communal forces simultaneously, undermining Kerala’s secular fabric.

He claimed that the Chief Minister had failed to give clear answers on issues related to the SDPI and that his visible irritation towards the media stemmed from an inability to address these questions. “Instead of responding, he avoids the media or reacts sharply,” the MP alleged.

Escalating his attack, Mr. Premachandran said that the alleged understanding between the CPI(M) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) extended beyond 10 constituencies, asserting that such “deals” were in place in at least 18 Assembly segments. He further alleged that in certain constituencies, the two parties were extending mutual support as part of this arrangement. The RSP leader also claimed that this understanding was cemented during a meeting between Mr. Vijayan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Describing such a political arrangement as a threat to democracy, Mr. Premachandran said they amounted to misleading voters and weakening the foundation of a secular polity.
