After several unsuccessful attempts to curb public urination near the suburban bus stand in Mysuru, steel mirrors have been installed along a compound wall on the busy road as a deterrent.

The innovative move aims to discourage people from urinating in public by creating a sense of self-awareness.

The initiative has drawn widespread attention on social media, with many users praising the “creativity” behind the solution. Videos showcasing the mirror installation have gone viral, with commenters appreciating the effort to maintain the city’s cleanliness, while some have suggested increasing the number of public toilets as a more sustainable solution.

Commuters and pedestrians frequenting the stretch have long complained about people urinating in the open, affecting hygiene in the area. The location witnesses heavy footfall due to its proximity to the bus stand and its importance as a key transport corridor.

The move has also sparked debate about the responsibility of civic authorities. Some residents have pointed to the lack of accessible public toilets in the vicinity, arguing that the absence of basic sanitation infrastructure contributes to the problem. The nearest public toilet facility is located within the bus stand.

Also, there have been complaints about the inadequate number and poor maintenance of public toilets across the city. Even busy commercial areas such as D. Devaraja Urs Road reportedly lack clean and functional facilities.
