The drone show held at Torchlight Parade Ground in Bannimantap in Mysuru on September 28 evening not only enthralled the crowd, but also earned an entry in the Guinness World Records for creating an artwork of a tiger using 2,983 drones.

Munigopal Raju, Managing Director of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), which conducted the drone show as part of the Dasara festival, said a decision was taken to increase the number of drones deployed for the show from 1,500 used in 2024 to 3,000 this year.
“During the process, we also learnt that we could set a Guinness record if we display our national animal (tiger) using 3,000 drones, as nobody had achieved the feat so far,” he said.
He said the CESC had followed all the necessary procedures, including bringing a team from London to certify the setting of the record. The process has been vetted by aeronautical engineers, auditors, and legal advocates, Mr. Raju claimed.
The CESC had carried out enough groundwork to ensure that this year’s illumination of streets and junctions of Mysuru as well as the drone show would contribute to a ‘memorable’ experience, he said.
The earlier record stood for creation of an artwork of a tiger by using 1,985 drones. But, the massive artwork of tiger above Torchlight Parade Ground at Bannimantap eclipsed the earlier record.
The drone show on September 28 evening was the first trial demonstration. CESC had planned two trial demonstrations on September 28 and 29 before the main shows scheduled for October 1 and 2.
While 3,000 drones took off on September 28 with colourful lights, painting the sky above Torchlight Parade Grounds at Bannimantap with a scintillating artwork, displaying a variety of images, the awestruck spectators were on their feet, cheering the presentation.
Besides the artwork of tiger, the drone show comprised images of the solar system, world map, the proud Indian soldier, peacock, dolphin, eagle, Lord Krishna dancing on a serpent, ‘Mother Cauvery’, map of Karnataka along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar, besides the map of Karnataka with five guarantee schemes, Ambari elephant, and Goddess Chamundeshwari.
Mr. Raju said the selection of images needs to be conducted very carefully as the power back up in the drones allows for only 10-12 images.
He said the credit for setting a world record should also be shared with the roughly 100 employees of a private company who were engaged in conduct of the drone show, besides the approximately 200 staff members of CESC.
Before the start of the drone show, playback singer Kunal Ganjawala and his team entertained the audience with a musical performance.
