The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in Ernakulam seized 15 tourist buses fitted with blinding laser lights and high-frequency audio systems, acting on a directive from the High Court.

The High Court had ordered stringent action against shooting videos inside the driver’s cabin of moving buses and against unauthorised modifications, including sharp laser lights. Acting on instructions from the Transport Commissioner, multiple squads of the MVD under Ernakulam Regional Transport Officer Biju Isaac seized the vehicles from different parts of the district.

Each unauthorised modification to the design of the vehicles attracted a fine of ₹5,000, and owners have been directed to present the buses again after removing the illegal changes. Directions have also been issued to cancel the fitness certificates of vehicles with excessive alterations.

Officials said the special drives, involving multiple squads, will continue in the coming days.
