A music programme organised in memory of well-known singer Shimoga Subbanna and to mark the birth anniversary of Kuvempu received an impressive response here on December 28.

Abhiruchi, a cultural organisation, in association with the Kannada and Culture Department, Kuvempu Trust at Kuppali, and Shamanna Trust of Shivamogga, organised the programme at Kuvempu Ranga Mandira.

Sriranga Subbanna, senior advocate and son of Shimoga Subbanna, Dr. P. Narayana, Dr. Shiva Ramakrishna, and other well-known personalities paying their respects to Shimoga Subbanna and Kuvempu.

SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT

Subbanna, a native of Shivamogga, is the first Kannadiga to win a national award for his playback singing. He is known for rendering poems written by Kuvempu, a Jnanapeetha awardee, also a native of Shivamogga.

The event was organised to pay tributes to both the personalities. A group of singers presented songs that were rendered by Shivamogga Subbanna. The singers included Pancham Halibandi, Surekha Hegade, Shruthi Raghavendra, Vinay Nadig, Parth Chirantan, and Pruthvi Gowda. They presented songs written by Chandrasekhar Kambar, Shishunala Sharief, N.S Lakshminarayna Bhat, and others.

Vinay Shivamogga of Shamanna Trust spoke about songs presented in the programme.

Shriranga Subbanna, senior advocate and son of Shivamogga Subbanna, P. Narayan, Shiva Ramakrishna of Abhiruchi, Umesh of the Kannada and Culture department, and others were present.
