Member of Parliament (MP-Tirupati) Maddila Gurumoorthy on Wednesday (December 24) requested the Centre to establish an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Tirupati, which has already emerged into an academic hub.
In a letter addressed to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, he said an IIM would strengthen public higher education in Tirupati and promote balanced regional development.
“An IIM in Tirupati would significantly enhance access to high-quality management education for local students, particularly those from rural and economically weaker backgrounds, by reducing the need to relocate to distant metropolitan centres,” said Mr. Gurumoorthy in the letter.
He also requested the Minister to undertake a detailed feasibility study for establishing an IIM-level management institute in Tirupati and allocate the required land, financial support and resources for infrastructure development, faculty recruitment and academic programmes.
