The Monsoon Session of the Karnataka Legislature will now be held from August 13. A formal announcement in this regard was made by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Earlier, the government had planned to schedule the Monsoon Session from August 6. However, the delay in the expansion of the State Cabinet has come in the way of holding the session earlier.
Now that there are clear indications that the Cabinet expansion will take place on Wednesday or Thursday, the session has been convened from August 13, sources said. They pointed out that the new Ministers would need some time to familiarise themselves with their departments, as they would be required to answer questions relating to them in the Legislature.
As this will be the first Legislature session after the change in the Chief Ministerial post, the new dispensation is keen that its Ministers be well prepared to handle issues related to their portfolios during the session, sources said.
Meanwhile, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra told reporters in Bengaluru that the BJP and JD(S) would jointly raise all major public issues during the upcoming Legislature session and hold the Congress government accountable.
He said a meeting of BJP MLAs and MLCs would soon be convened, and discussions would also be held with the Leaders of the Opposition to finalise the strategy for the session.
Issues such as the Bidadi Township Project, the proposed airport in Kanakapura, the prevailing drought situation, and other matters affecting the people would be comprehensively discussed in the Legislature, he said.
