Bharatiya Janata Party’s national working president, Nitin Nabin, on Monday (January 12, 2026) said that the Modi government’s “Startup India” and “Make In India” initiatives had directed the youth’s energy towards building a developed and self-reliant India.

Speaking at the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha’s “Rashtriya Yuva Diwas” event, marking Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary at party’s district headquarters in Gurugram, Mr. Nabin said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had motivated young people to contribute to the nation’s development. “In the words of Mr. Modi, ‘Yuva’ means ‘Youth is United for Vikshit and Atmanirbhar Bharat’,” he said, highlighting the Prime Minister’s vision. He added that projects like “Startup India” and “Make In India” are shaping the direction for India’s youth.

Mr. Nabin, on his first visit to Haryana after his appointment, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting the growth of start-ups in India. He noted that before the BJP came to power in 2014, there were only a few hundred start-ups, but under Mr. Modi’s leadership, the number had surged to around 1.5 lakh start-up projects currently underway.

This, he added, showed that today’s youth was not just a “job-seeker”, but also becoming a “job-giver”. “This change in mindset has been caused by Mr. Modi. From software to every technology, the youth from India is now leading. More than half of the young engineers in Silicon Valley are from India,” said Mr. Nabin, adding that “Mr. Modi was giving direction to the energy of the youth”.

In a veiled attack on Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, but without naming him, Mr. Nabin said some leaders indulged in “part-time” politics, but the workers of the BJP pursued the politics with “passion” to “work with dedication for country’s development”.

On joining politics

In a word of advice to the youth contemplating a career in politics, Mr. Nabin said it was a test of “stamina” and not “speed”. “I would advice youth that politics is not a 100 m race, but a marathon,” he said, cautioning the youth to “avoid short-cuts” in politics.

Condemning the Opposition for their stand on Ram Temple and Article 370, Mr. Nabin, said his party worked not only for technological advancement, but also took forward our culture. The way Somnath Swamibhan Parv was celebrated by Mr. Modi, it had made every Indian proud, he said, adding that “Mr. Modi has given real freedom to Kashmir”.

National president of BJP Yuva Morcha and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya invoked the three values of Swami Vivekanand – Confidence, Physical Strength and Service to the Poor. “Swamiji would say that believe in yourself before you believe in God. His second message was that a strong mind resides in a strong body. To him, service to the poor was the service to the God,” he said.

Haryana CM Nayab Saini and State party president Mohan Lal Badoli were also present.
