Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Satya Kumar Yadav directed senior health officials to review and evaluate the number of patients attended to by doctors every day.
At a review meeting held at the Secretariat on the performance of doctors on Monday, the Minister said he had received complaints about doctors not being present in hospitals and that many of these complaints came from teaching hospitals, district and area hospitals, and community health centres.
The Minister directed that strict disciplinary action be taken against doctors and other paramedical staff found negligent or irresponsible in providing care to patients. He also instructed officials to monitor how many outpatients (OP) each doctor is attending daily and to submit detailed reports.
At the same time, the Minister said that doctors providing good medical services to people will be encouraged. He made it clear that while recognising those who work well, there would be no leniency toward those who do not perform their duties.
Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav further said that the performance of administrators working in teaching hospitals is not satisfactory and asked officials to evaluate their functioning as well. He also directed them to examine the job charts of superintendents and other key positions in teaching hospitals.
He said that details of cancer treatments being provided in private hospitals should also be reported through the notifiable registry. However, this is not happening in practice, he observed, and directed officials to take necessary action in this regard.
Principal Secretary Saurabh Gaur, Director of Secondary Health Chakradhar Babu and others were present in the meeting.
