The Rajamahendravaram police on Saturday registered a case of ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder’ against Suravarapu Daswanth and Andrew Joseph Edwards, who, on the night of August 3, had allegedly rammed their car into a two-wheeler, causing grievous injuries to PG medical student K. Priyanka, who was pillion-riding, at a private mall in the city.
Dr. Priyanka had been declared brain-dead the same day, and she reportedly breathed her last at a private hospital in Secunderabad on Friday, said the GSL Hospital management in Rajamahendravaram.
A native of Kurnool district, Dr. Priyana had enrolled herself in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) course at the GSL Medical College in February 2026.
“A case has been registered against the accused under BNS Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The accused are currently lodged in the Rajahmundry Central Prison following their remand till August 21,” East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore told The Hindu.
