The media fraternity in Karnataka on Tuesday paid tributes to veteran journalist and former MLC P. Ramiah, who died recently. He was described as a professional who never compromised on ethics.

The programme organised in Bengaluru saw the launch of the revised version of his autobiography, Naanu Hindu Ramiah that chronicles his experiences of over 60 years. The programme had been organised by Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, Karnataka Madhyama Academy, Karnataka Union of Working Journalists, Bengaluru Press Club and Bengaluru Reporters’ Guild.

Recounting his association with Ramiah, who served The Hindu for over 45 years, senior journalist A. Jayaram, who worked with him from 1972 to 1998, said that Ramiah had a great grasp on news, and Secretariat reporting was his forte.

Mr. Jayaram recalled that Ramiah had managed to get an interview with Nobel laureate Sir C.V. Raman, who liked to stay away from the media. After being nominated to the Legislative Council, Mr. Ramaiah desisted from joining the then-ruling party and maintained his independence, he pointed out.

Senior Journalist Asha Krishnaswamy said Ramiah was a ready reconer for other journalists to recall old political developments.

Adichunchanagiri Mutt Pontiff Nirmalanandanatha Swami observed that Ramiah’s life had spanned beyond journalism as he was ahead in social service too by having links with various organisations.

Ee Sanje Editor T. Venkatesh, who published Ramiah’s autobiography, and former KPSC Chairman Dr. H.N. Krishna, who persuaded Ramaiah to pen the autobiography, were present. Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy and Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi President Wooday P. Krishna participated.
