The Idol Wing CID of the Tamil Nadu police seized a metal idol of Manickavasagar stolen from a temple in Madurai district in 2021.
Acting on specific information, a special team intercepted a motorcycle at Sellampatti near Usilampatti in Madurai district and apprehended A. Kasimayan of Paappapatti. He was in possession of the idol weighing about 3.5 kg.
The accused admitted to having stolen the idol from the Meenakshi Temple in Anaiyur along with his associates in 2021. Kasimayan and his associate Thavasi, who was waiting in the vicinity, were arrested. The motorcycle used to commit the crime was seized, according to a press release.
