A 28-year-old man allegedly set his two-wheeler on fire in the middle of a road in Basaveshwaranagar on Sunday night after failing to secure a loan for his ailing father’s treatment.

Police said Yeshwanth, an employee at a private courier office, had been desperately trying to raise money for his father’s medical expenses. He had sought help from friends and even offered to mortgage his two-wheeler, but they refused to assist him.

Yeshwanth later approached local moneylenders, who also declined to offer a loan, citing that his vehicle was already under finance.

Frustrated and dejected, Yeshwanth stopped his bike in the middle of the road, poured petrol over it, and set it ablaze to vent his anger. Passers-by, alarmed by the fire, alerted the police, who rushed to the spot, extinguished the flames, and detained Yeshwanth.

The police registered a case against him for creating public nuisance. He was arrested and was later released.
