Andhra Pradesh and United Kingdom authorities exchange an MoU at the Secretariat in Velagapudi on Tuesday in the presence of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana.
The Andhra Pradesh government and the United Kingdom government on Tuesday signed an MoU to strengthen cooperation in urban development and infrastructure, with a focus on developing Amaravati as a liveable capital.
The agreement was signed at the Secretariat in Velagapudi by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar and Chaz Walia, Deputy Director, Government Partnerships, UK Department for Business and Trade, in the presence of Minister P. Narayana and senior officials.
Under the partnership, the two governments will collaborate on infrastructure planning, sustainable urban development, technology transfer and innovation, and integrated urban mobility. The cooperation will cover project design, feasibility assessment, investment planning, programme management and execution.
The initiative will benefit Amaravati as well as 123 municipalities and municipal corporations in Andhra Pradesh. Areas of cooperation will include roads, drainage, drinking water, and solid and liquid waste management infrastructure.
Mr. Narayana said infrastructure works worth ₹40,000 crore were under way across the State with the support of the Centre and the State government.
He said the agreement followed Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s directions to leverage global best practices in the development of Amaravati.
