An eight-month old boy was allegedly killed by his father at Gonegandla mandal headquarters in Kurnool district on Thursday.

According to police, accused, Chakali Naresh, was married to Sravani of Kulumula village in Gongandla mandal two years back. The couple and their eight-month old son were living in a room on the outskirts of Gonegandla.

Gonegandla Inspector of Police Vamsinath said Naresh used to harass his wife suspecting her fidelity. The couple used to quarrel over the same frequently and on Thursday, Naresh again entered into a heated argument with Sravani over the issue. “Naresh attacked his wife with an iron rod leaving her seriously injured. He then grabbed the boy from her and dumped him in a water drum,” the Inspector said.

By the time locals and Sravani’s parents reached the spot, the boy had drowned. Sravani was shifted to a hospital for treatment. Sravani’s family members staged a protest demanding serious action against the accused. They withdrew the protest after the police assured prompt and stringent action. A case was registered and investigation is on.

Police said that Naresh was married earlier and had four children with his first wife. His first wife died under suspicious circumstances, they added.
