A 38-year-old man was killed when the van he was travelling in collided with a private transport bus on Tirupattur-Vaniyambadi High Road near Jolarpet here on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as K. Ravi, a farmer from Jayapuram village that comes under Jolarpet panchayat union.

An inquiry revealed that Ravi was taking his farm produce to the farmers’ market in Vaniyambadi, when an oncoming private bus, which was heading in the wrong direction, hit his van. The incident occurred around 4.30 a.m on Thursday.

While Ravi died on the spot, passers-by rescued the injured bus driver, S. Ranjith Kumar, 25, of Krishnagiri.

Based on the alert, Tirupattur Town police inspected the spot. Investigation revealed that the private bus driver drove the vehicle in the wrong direction that resulted in the accident.
