The Kalady police have arrested a 28-year-old man on charges of sexually abusing a woman on the promise of marriage and cheating her of 16 sovereigns of gold and ₹1,00,000.
The arrested is Niyas Puthiyapurayil of Pappinisseri, Kannur. According to the police, the youth sexually abused the woman on multiple occasions between 2022 and 2023. He allegedly gained the money and gold from her after convincing her to start a business venture together.
The complainant alleged that Niyas, however, refused to repay the money and return the gold, and assaulted her when she sought them back after realising that she had been duped. Niyas had been booked by the Shoranur police in another case for allegedly impersonating a travelling ticket examiner.
