A 32-year-old man was hacked to death by unidentified assailants while he was riding a motorcycle near Sunkeshwarahal village in Devadurga taluk of Raichur district on Tuesday (August 4) night.

The deceased has been identified as Bhumananda, 32, a resident of Haddinhal village. According to the police, the attackers intercepted him on the road and assaulted him with deadly weapons. He sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

On receiving information, officers from the Gabbur Police Station visited the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation. The body was shifted for postmortem examination.

The exact motive behind the murder is yet to be established. The police said they are investigating the case from all possible angles and have registered a case.

Raichur Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri said that two suspects had been taken into custody for questioning.

“The prime accused is among those detained, and another suspect is also being questioned. Preliminary investigation suggests that the murder was the result of a personal dispute. The deceased’s brother is in Bengaluru, and further action will be taken based on the complaint he lodges,” Mr. Giri said.
