Man arrested for ganja smuggling in Tirupati

The Chandragiri Police arrested a man for allegedly smuggling ganja from Odisha to Tamil Nadu and seized 32-kg ganja worth ₹6 lakh, a car and two mobile phones.

Revealing the case details at a media conference in Tirupati on Monday (November 10, 2025), Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu said that Chandragiri Police have cleverly cracked down on the ganja smuggling in a cinematic style. Upon receiving information about the illegal transportation of ganja, a team comprising Chandragiri DSP Prasad, Chandragiri CI M. Suresh Kumar, RC Puram SI M. Bhaktavatsalam, Chandragiri SI Y. Anitha conducted special checks on Tirupati-Naidupeta stretch of NH-140 on Sunday afternoon (November 09).

The accused was identified as Ponnu Swami Selvaraj (43), a native of Kalanivasal village in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, kept ganja in the car dashboard, gear box, and tire tread area. During inspection, 27 packets of ganja, totalling 32.730 kg, were found hidden in the vehicle.

The SP warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in illegal trafficking of marijuana and narcotics. Such intoxicants are destroying the future of the youth. The police department is committed to completely eliminating this addiction from the society, he said.

He urged the public to cooperate with the police and immediately inform about such illegal activities. Later, he congratulated Chandragiri DSP Prasad and his team for their outstanding performance in this case and announced rewards.
