Malaria cases are on the decline in Andhra Pradesh, and the State has achieved 71.57% reduction as part of the goal to eliminate malaria by 2030, officials informed Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Satya Kumar Yadav.

According to a press release from the department on Saturday (February 21), the officials said that while in 2015, 25,042 malaria cases were recorded, the number came down to 7,119 in 2025. In the first six weeks of 2025, 625 malaria cases were recorded and during the same period in 2026, only 166 cases were recorded.

Efforts are being made to control indigenous malaria transmission, where malaria are contracted locally, officials told the Minister. According to officials, along with malaria, cases of dengue, chikungunya, food poisoning and outbreak incidents have also declined in the State.

According to the press note, a major chunk of malaria cases in the State get reported from the two districts of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam. Of 7,871 malaria cases reported in the State in 2024, 3,693 were from Alluri Sitarama Raju district and 2,654 from Parvathipuram Manyam district, which together accounted for 80.63% of the cases.

In 2025, out of the total 7,119 cases, 3,513 were recorded in ASR district and 1,820 in Parvathipuram Manyam, together accounting for 74.91% of the total. The officials attributed the high number of cases to the forest and hilly terrain. Meanwhile, no malaria cases were reported in Bapatla, West Godavari and Konaseema districts over the past three years.

East Godavari, Annamayya, Chittoor, Palnadu and Tirupati districts reported one or two cases, while Anantapur, Guntur, Nellore and Sri Sathya Sai districts recorded fewer than ten cases. Kadapa, Nandyal and Kurnool recorded fewer than 20 cases, and Prakasam and Srikakulam recorded fewer than 38 cases. NTR district recorded fewer than 50 cases.

The State reported a decline in dengue cases, too, from 6,453 in 2023 to 5,555 in 2024 and further to 2,686 in 2025.

In 2024, 50 water contamination incidents were recorded in the State, compared to 22 in 2025. Food contamination incidents decreased from 53 in 2024 to 42 in 2025, according to the press note.
