The Maharashtra State Examination Council on Saturday (June 27, 2026) announced the postponing of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, due to suspicion of a paper leak. The exam was to be held on Sunday (June 28, 2026) at 1,028 centres across the State. “This decision has been taken to make the examination transparent,” a government press release issued on Saturday (June 27, 2026) afternoon stated.

The Opposition has hit out at the government and has called for a thorough probe in the allegations of paper leak, expressing anguish at the incident. “Why is the government not capable of holding a single exam transparently? Why is it playing with the lives of our youth? If the government does not act strictly, we will hit the streets,” Maharashtra Congress president Harshawardhan Sapkal said.

The decision to postpone the exam was taken after confidential reports of an alleged paper leak came in from Bhiwandi in Thane district. The Bhiwandi police conducted raids and carried out investigation, officials said.

“Officials of the Maharashtra State Examination Council were immediately called to the spot. They verified the seized papers. During the investigation, it was observed that some of the questions found with the relevant persons and the questions in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) June 2026 question paper were the same. A case has been registered in this regard at Bhiwandi Police Station,” an official statement of the government said.

The new date of the TET examination and other updated information will be published on the official website of the Maharashtra State Examination Council.
