The Madras High Court on Wednesday (July 29, 2026) dismissed as withdrawn a writ petition seeking a direction to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to inquire into a complaint regarding former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin having allegedly suppressed certain details regarding DMK Charitable Trust in his 2026 election affidavit.
The First Division Bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan permitted the petitioner to withdraw the case with liberty to pursue other legal remedies available to him. The petitioner’s counsel chose to withdraw the case after the judges said that the former Chief Minister did not appear to have any personal interest in the trust properties.
T. Sivagnanasambandan, a 73-year-old advocate who had contested against Mr. Stalin in the Kolathur constituency in the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections as a candidate sponsored by Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi (DMSK), had filed the writ petition. He claimed that Mr. Stalin had not disclosed details regarding his trusteeship in DMK Charitable Trust, which had purchased a property for ₹2.27 crore in 2019.
