LRS deadline extended for three more months in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced another three-month extension for submission of applications under the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS), extending the deadline till April 23, 2026, in a bid to bring unauthorised layouts and plots into the formal urban planning system.

In fact, this is the second time that the State Government has extended the deadline after introducing the scheme last year. It was launched in August 2025 for three months. Subsequently, the deadline was extended to January 23, 2026. As the deadline ended yesterday, the government again extended it for another three months, until April 23, 2026. The government maintained that it will not extend the date further.

The decision was announced by Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), S. Suresh Kumar, after a review meeting with Vice-Chairpersons of Urban Development Authorities and Municipal Commissioners across the State. Issuing the Government Order, he said the extension was granted after considering representations from the public and stakeholders, with the objective of ensuring orderly and planned urban growth.

Once regularised, plot owners will be eligible for building permissions, bank loans and civic amenities such as water supply, drainage, roads and street lighting. Officials noted a sharp rise in participation, with 61,947 applications received under LRS-2025 in just six months, compared to 43,759 applications under LRS-2020.

The Principal Secretary warned of zero tolerance towards corruption, stating that any official found demanding or accepting bribes in LRS processing would face strict disciplinary and legal action. To ensure transparency and timely delivery, the government has fixed a 15-day Service Level Agreement for disposal of pending cases, with deemed approval if deadlines are missed.

However, he clarified that plots located on government land, water bodies, road alignments, environmentally sensitive zones, flood-prone areas, green buffers, assigned lands, or those under litigation are not eligible for regularisation. Citizens have been urged to apply online within the extended window, failing which unstandardised plots may face restrictions on registration, construction, and financing.
