Lookout notice issued to trace missing Suraj Lama

The Nedumbassery police on Wednesday issued a lookout notice even as a special investigation team has intensified attempts to trace Bengaluru resident Suraj Lama who has been reported missing from the city since October 10.

The police said those who get information on the missing person should contact them at 94979-90077 or 94979-87128.

The Kerala High Court, in the meantime, ordered the investigating officer to take into confidence Santon Lama, son of Suraj Lama, and to investigate every lead that he shared to trace his father.

This was after Santon informed the court that he was getting leads from different persons about his missing father. The court directed the police officers probing the case to make necessary visits to his house to gather more information.

The government informed the court that an SIT headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural Police, had been constituted to probe the case. The matter has been listed for hearing on November 11.

The High Court had earlier this month directed the Home Ministry to probe how Suraj Lama, a 58-year-old Bengaluru resident who had been deported from Kuwait on October 5, reportedly following an alcohol poisoning incident, landed at the Cochin International Airport after emigration clearance.

His son had filed a habeas corpus plea before the High Court after Suraj Lama, who reportedly had memory loss, was subsequently reported missing from Kochi since October 10. Instead of being sent to Bengaluru, he was reportedly deported from Kuwait to Kochi, without informing his relatives. The Thrikkakara police had on October 8 taken him into custody and ferried him in an ambulance to the Government Medical College Hospital at Kalamassery, from where he is said to be missing from October 10.
