The Lokayukta police on Monday caught a Bescom official red-handed while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹3 lakh from an electrical contractor for an official favour.

The arrested official has been identified as Rajesh K.V., executive engineer (electrical), E-11 Division, Bescom, Indiranagar.

According to the officials, the complainant, an electrical contractor, approached them alleging that Rajesh had demanded a bribe of ₹7 lakh to reactivate electricity meters and provide a new 24 KW power connection to the complainant’s client.

Acting on the complaint, Lokayukta officials laid a trap and caught Rajesh red-handed.

A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is under way.
