Amid controversies over the appointment of a government pleader with alleged past links with the Students Federation of India (SFI), leaders of the Kerala Students Union (KSU) including president Aloshious Xavier met Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan here on Monday. Mr. Xavier had been seeking the CM’s appointment since last week. The CM, who attended a public programme at the S.H. College in Thevara on Friday, was seen walking away even as Mr. Xavier waited to speak to him.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mr. Xavier said that the KSU was hopeful of a “very positive outcome” from the meeting. “The CM gave us a patient hearing and listened to all the concerns that we raised. Now the decision has to be taken by the government. I can’t forecast what that decision will be. We expect a decision which goes with the spirit of the KSU. All the ministers, including the CM, have been a part of the KSU,” he said. Mr.Xavier said that there was no need to connect the ongoing issues to the Congress’s inner politics.

A source from the Chief Minister’s Office told The Hindu that no decision has been taken yet on the demands raised by the KSU.
