The committee headed by Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil and constituted by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to submit recommendations on re-introducing student elections at campuses met on January 13 and has decided to invite stakeholders’ opinion.

The committee unanimously agreed that it cannot decide unilaterally whether student elections should proceed, given the significant democratic, academic and social implications. Instead, it emphasised on the need for broader public consensus through consultations with key stakeholders.

The public, students, parents, educators and other stakeholders are invited to share their views and suggestions throughout the committee’s tenure.

The next meeting is scheduled for January 22, where received opinions will be reviewed and further actions deliberated.
