Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has, in principle, given his nod to declare ‘Prabhala Teertham’, a four-century-old procession of chariots, as the State festival of Andhra Pradesh. The government is expected to announce the decision within a few days.

“Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and myself had a discussion with Mr. Naidu, reiterating the need to declare the Prabhala Teertham as a State festival, given its association with the people of Konaseema for over four centuries,” Minister for Tourism and Culture Kandula Durgesh said during his visit to Razole Assembly constituency on Tuesday (November 25, 2025).

Mr. Durgesh went to Razole to review the arrangements being made for the visit of Mr. Pawan Kalyan, scheduled for Wednesday (November 26, 2025).

People representing 11 villages of Ambajipeta mandal of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Konaseema district would congregate with the Prabhalu (chariots) carrying Lod Shiva. They display their chariots in the Jaggannathota coconut groves by crossing paddy fields and canals only to immerse them in the Godavari canal at Mosalapalli village in Ambajipeta mandal.

Celebrated on the next day of Sankranthi, the festival of harvest, the festival is locally known as ‘Prabhala Teertham’. Thousands of visitors from across the State turn up to witness the procession of the chariots.
