KLS GIT in Belagavi, in Karnataka, has launched its Centre of Excellence in Precision Engineering, a ‘Factory on Campus’ initiative that aims to bridge the gap between students, start-ups, and industry.

This will be done through AI-enabled, industry-grade manufacturing on campus. Apart from giving students access to industry-grade tools, the factory would provide them valuable experience before they graduate.

During the launch of the project, Raghavendra Srinivas Bhat, MD and CEO, Karnataka Bank, said, “Industry-supported academic initiatives are vital in preparing competent professionals.” He appreciated KLS GIT for creating an ecosystem that aimed at integrating education with industrial practice.

Sudarshan Mogasale, CEO, Dassault Systèmes Solutions Lab, India, emphasised that empowering students in Tier-2 cities with cutting-edge digital manufacturing tools would build a globally competitive workforce for India’s aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Rajeev Kaul, MD and CEO, Aequs Limited, Belagavi, remarked that the manufacturing industry increasingly seeks engineers with practical exposure, and initiatives like this will substantially reduce the gap between academia and industry.

Pradeep Sawkar, President, Karnataka Law Society, said that he believed that educational institutions should continuously evolve by integrating emerging technologies, and industrial partnerships to produce globally competent engineers capable of driving innovation and growth.

Rajendra K. Belgaumkar, Chairperson, Governing Council, KLS GIT, said the ‘Factory on Campus’ model would provide students with continuous exposure to industrial practices, preparing them to contribute effectively from the very first day of their professional careers.
