Sankranti festivities in Hyderabad next year [2025] would feature grander events as hot air balloons, drones too would take to the city besides colourful kites. The lakes in and around the city, which have been rejuvenated, may also host the festival.

The details were discussed at a review meeting held by Chief Secretary, K. Ramakrishna Rao, at the Telangana State Secretariat in Hyderabad on Monday (December 22, 2025).

Kite Festival at Parade Grounds

The International Kite Festival would be organised at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad from January 13 to 15, with participation from international and national kite flyers, said the Tourism Department’s Managing Director, V Kranti. A similar festival was held at the venue this year. Thousands of people came to the venue with friends and family.

Besides, a Hot Air Balloon Festival too would be held on the city outskirts during the same period. A Drone Festival too was planned, with participation of drone pilots from across the country.

Ministers to visit rejuvenated lakes

The Chief Secretary said that the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy wants the festival be organised at lakes rejuvenated by Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), to showcase and highlight the successful rejuvenation of these water bodies, as per a press note.

Mr. Rao directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), and HYDRAA to assign one dedicated officer each to supervise and coordinate the works related to the festival at the identified locations. He said that Ministers will visit these rejuvenated lakes from the first week of January to review the arrangements and assess the preparedness.

A presentation was made on rejuvenated lakes, at a review meeting held by Chief Secretary, K. Ramakrishna Rao, at the Telangana State Secretariat in Hyderabad on Monday (December 22, 2025).
