A Statewide “relay” boycott of outpatient (OP) clinics in government medical colleges by the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) as part of an ongoing protest against the government’s neglect of their long-standing demands is entering the sixth week.
As part of the ongoing agitation, doctors in medical colleges across the State will boycott all outpatient services and theory classes for medical students on Saturday (November 29, 2025).
However, the treatment for in-patients, conduct of surgeries and all emergency services in the casualty, labour room, and ICU and emergency surgeries will not be affected by the protest, the KGMCTA said.
The agitation will continue and the KGMCTA will stay away from all official discussions. They will also hold protest meetings in all medical colleges.
The KGMCTA said that they were forced to intensify their agitation as the government has chosen to ignore the long-standing demands of doctors. It appealed to the public to avoid hospital visits for non-emergency needs on the protest days so that they were not put to difficulties.
Pay revision
The KGMCTA also urged the government to resolve the issues raised by doctors, including the rectification of pay revision anomalies and discrepancies in the entry-level pay of Assistant Professors. This was important because poor pay at the entry level was discouraging young doctors from joining the medical education service.
It demanded that the pay revision arrears pending since 2016 be disbursed immediately. It pointed out that while the arrears of all State government employees were paid by the government in four instalments, the doctors continued to be denied the salary arrears.
The KGMCTA also demanded that adequate faculty posts be created in new medical colleges as per National Medical Commission norms and in all other medical colleges based on patient load, as the currently sanctioned posts are highly insufficient.
