The Kerala Police have invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against a 26-year-old who was arrested upon his return from Saudi Arabia a few days ago in connection with an offensive comment posted under a video featuring the daughter of a Keralite victim of the Pahalgam terror attack.

The legal action was taken against Muhammed Sanoof of Ayikkarapadi in Malappuram. He was detained on the basis of a lookout notice at the Calicut International Airport on July 4, following which the Karipur police handed him to the Muttam police in Idukki, where the case had been registered.

The case pertains to a Facebook comment allegedly posted by the accused under a video that featured the daughter of N. Ramachandran, a Kochi native who was killed in the terror attack in April 2025. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader.

During the interrogation, the Muttam police reportedly secured evidence that prompted the addition of UAPA charges against the accused. His mobile phone is also under examination.

While the accused has been remanded to judicial custody, the police are likely to seek his custody for further evidence collection and interrogation, official sources stated.
