Kerala local body polls: 72,005 candidates in the fray as per provisional data

As per the latest available update, Kerala has 72,005 candidates in the fray for the 2025 local body elections after the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations was over at 3 p.m. on Monday. They include 37,786 female candidates, 34,218 male candidates, and one transgender candidate.

The State Election Commission said these figures are not final and would be updated on Tuesday.

The district-wise break-up for the available data is as follows: Kasaragod – 2,786, Kannur -5,383, Wayanad – 1,908, Kozhikode – 5,884, Malappuram – 7,786, Palakkad – 6,599, Thrissur – 6,907, Ernakulam – 6,571, Idukki – 2,957, Kottayam – 4,903, Alappuzha – 5,219, Pathanamthitta – 3,528, Kollam – 5,325, and Thiruvananthapuram – 6,249.

After the scrutiny of the nominatuion papers on Saturday, the Commission had approved the papers of 1,07,211 candidates.
